Job Description: Responsible for performing advanced/complex hardware inspections, tests and/or audits of purchased parts, units, materials, equipment, panel/module level assemblies and quality control programs to specifications. Inspects and may perform minor rework on defective or malfunctioning units or systems. Ensures raw materials, in-process, and finished products meet company and test standards. Highly skilled and experienced senior support individual contributor. Works autonomously. Acts as a mentor to lower-level peers and provides guidance on tasks. Makes recommendations for process improvements. Works on assignments requiring development of concepts and techniques. Communicates with contacts, typically within and outside the department, on matters that involve explaining complex assignments, solving problems, and initiating process improvements. Makes recommendations for new and improved procedures. Often acts as a facilitator and team leader.
Essential Functions:
- Interprets manufacturing drawings, diagrams, specifications and lists to approve or reject units, test setups, or systems for in process or final assemblies.
- Maintains support documentation and performs sampling and testing of incoming components, raw materials, and build of assemblies.
- Reviews and makes recommendations to work authorization documents / work travelers for detailed and complex hardware assemblies.
- Reviews and validates performance data reports.
- Writes, tracks, and processes hardware related defect reports and documentation.
- Ability to work independently / autonomously with a high degree of initiative to solve issues on complex concepts and techniques.
Qualifications:
- Fully proficient, self-sufficient individual contributor
- Advanced hardware inspection skills and knowledge
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
- Experience mentoring and training inspection and quality processes to new and/or junior inspectors, as well as members of engineering / program teams.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Works to achieve business operational targets which have significant impact on the overall achievement of results for the team. Work is of advanced scope, typically on larger, task-driven activities.
- Advanced communication skills, both verbally and digitally, as they will interface with engineers and program managers, and may interface with customer quality representatives and suppliers.
- Develops or assists in developing methods and procedures necessary for inspection.
- Experience with RCCAs, Lean, and Six Sigma methodologies.
