Summary
The Quality Technician is the first step into a role that is one of the most in-demand fields in Manufacturing. The Quality Tech. is the hands-on shop floor “first responder” who also begins to learn the skills needed to advance to Quality Engineering roles (i.e. analytics, Advanced Product Quality Planning, manufacturing processes, Supplier Quality, etc.). A Quality Tech. should enjoy working on the shop floor and comfortable working with all of the other supporting organizations on a daily basis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Shop floor issue 1st responder: review issues reported by the shop floor (manufacturing, supplier, engineering, etc.) to drive quick and effective resolutions.
- Inventory Control: tagging and quarantine suspect or dispositioned parts, arrange shipments to and from vendors.
- Coordinating with multiple departments on a daily basis: Purchasing (arranging parts orders from vendors), Engineering (verify designs, approve deviations), Operations (first contact for most issues), Shipping/Receiving (outgoing/incoming parts).
- Supplier Quality: Contacting suppliers regarding defects/issues and coordinating the return of parts and Root Cause Corrective Actions as requested. Log information and compile metrics to establish Supplier Development programs.
- Complete required documentation for issues: Facility Issue Log, RMA list, MO list, etc.) which includes follow up and notes on a regular basis until issue resolution.
- Customer returns/issues (RMA’s): reviewing incoming customer complaints, coordinating and driving quick, effective resolutions. Regular follow up and documentation until issue resolution.
- Root Cause Corrective Action: investigating and coordinating across multiple departments/organizations the various issues and coming to a quick, effective resolution.
- Process creation and documentation: reviewing of “best practices” and documenting into an instructible format (includes work instructions, standard operating procedures, standards).
- Career development: pathway to Quality Analyst, Quality Engineering, Continuous Improvement, etc. Begin learning Quality standards, principles and methodologies (APQP, ISO 9001:2015, various manufacturing systems). Knowledge and Skill
- High school diploma or equivalent
• 1-3 years manufacturing experience. • Ability to work cohesively across all departments (engineering, operations, purchasing, PSN)
- Good communication/written skills.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft products (Windows and Office).
- Great organization skills: organize various issues, prioritize and follow up on a proactive basis..
