Job description
The QA Supervisor assists the QA Manager to assure the quality, safety and wholesomeness of the products manufactured at the facility and compliance with industry regulations. The QA Supervisor manages the laboratory staff, daily laboratory functions, and product disposition.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Follow DFA GMPs and work in a manner consistent with all corporate and regulatory quality and sanitation requirements.
Manage operations for the plant laboratory
Directly supervise laboratory technicians, schedule hourly shifts, provide training and performance feedback.
Set up, calibrate, and trouble shoot laboratory equipment
Manage split sample testing program for auditing analytical and micro results
Review laboratory and production documents daily to assess quality of products, determine that products meet customer specifications, and approve products for release to customers.
Conduct physical and organeoleptic evaluations of products and ingredients
Manage product “Hold and Release” programs
Direct testing and analysis of special products, trials, etc. and provide effective reports to involved parties (management, vendors, customers, etc.)
Work closely with the QA Manager to maintain Food Safety, Quality, and Regulatory Programs and foster knowledge and compliance within plant teams
Develop policies and procedures as needed
Develop and deliver training to employees
Maintain Pest Control program for facility and associated documentation
Participate on the Food Safety Team and generate or review related documentation as required
Participate in facility audits (internal, regulatory, customer) and assist with reports and corrective actions. Includes physical inspection of equipment, buildings, and facility grounds.
Work with plant employees on Good Manufacturing Practices, Sanitation Practices, and Safety to ensure both personnel safety and Food Safety.
Support Safe Quality Foods (SQF) programs (GFSI – Global Food Safety Initiative), obtain SQF Practioner certification
Conduct investigations into incidents and complaints, document findings, and communicate to employees and customers as appropriate
Convey company, facility, and department goals to employees
Support continuous improvement initiatives BACKUP POSITIONS: QA Supervisor will act as primary backup to QA Manager when necessary

Requirements:Education and Experience
BS or BA in related field (Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, etc.)
2 years related experience preferred (food-production laboratory, quality control or compliance)
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with other departments, regulatory agencies, customers, and consultants
Ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing, and to speak in front of large groups and lead employee education classes successfully
Ability to analyze data and generate effective reports
Ability to understand food industry regulations and their impact to the organization
Effective coaching, leadership, attention to detail, and follow-through
Must like cheese
Intermediate skill with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, Outlook, Powerpoint)
Able to learn and use SAP transactions related to this position
Able to learn and use other software and data management systems as needed
Able to work multiple shifts, weekends, holidays
Must be able to read, write, and speak English. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
Licensing and Certification:
(Must have or be able to obtain within 120 days or as agreed)
HACCP/Food Safety Manager certification
SQF Practitioner certification § PCQI certification
May be required to obtain and maintain other certifications and/or licenses as needed (Appendix N CIS, Food Defense, etc.)
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Ability to lift 50 lbs
Frequent standing for long periods of time
Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, lifting, reaching
Occasional exposure to cold/refrigerated conditions for short periods of time (less than 30 minutes at a time)
Occasional exposure to chemicals
Occasional exposure to wet conditions
