The Mid-Atlantic Business Unit has an immediate opening for a Quality Control Lab Specialist located in Richmond, VA. This position will report to the Quality Control Manager and is responsible for maintaining lab facilities and organizing, performing, and reporting accurate testing of concrete and concrete raw materials for Titan Virginia Ready Mix, Roanoke Cement, and Separation Technologies. This position also supports concrete quality in the plant and at customer sites, provides responsive and professional customer service, and collaborates with manufacturing colleagues to ensure consistent, quality concrete.


Responsibilities

  • Perform testing of concrete and raw materials in the lab, concrete plant, and jobsite
  • Work with quality managers to define testing programs and requirements
  • Analyze testing data and provide recommendations to quality managers
  • Manage resources to ensure testing is completed accurately and on schedule
  • Analyze and adjust concrete mix designs
  • Maintain lab certifications in accordance with ASTM C1077 and other DOT requirements
  • Maintain a clean, safe, reliable, and compliant lab facility and equipment
  • Supervise third-party test labs
  • Manage raw materials and test specimens
  • Create clear and complete records and reports
  • Stay informed of relevant concrete specification and customer requirements
  • Perform sample testing and monitoring of our concrete production and procedures for the region
  • Observe job site testing and perform comparative testing with independent testing agencies
  • Communicate with customers, testing laboratories, and dispatch and plant supervisors regarding mix utilization and admixture dosage rates

Qualifications

  • BS degree in an engineering or science discipline (preferably civil or chemical engineering) or Concrete-Industry Management (CIM) degree
  • ACI and DOT certification, including Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I (within 6 months), Concrete Strength Testing Technician (within 6 months), Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician - Level 2 (within 12 months)
  • NRMCA Certified Concrete Technologist - Level 3 (or ability to obtain within 12 months)
  • Proficient with Design of Experiments, Statistical Analysis, and Statistical Process Control
  • Adaptable, with ability to work in fast changing circumstances and non-standard hours in response to customer needs
  • Analytical and organized
  • Customer service mindset
  • Technology-savvy, with an ability to master industry software applications
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and understand necessary customer, local, state and federal specifications and standards
  • Ability to perform mix design calculations and standard engineering calculations
  • Must be able to lift up to fifty pounds on a regular basis
  • Ability to handle loading and unloading of cylinders and other physical activities as required
  • Independent and self-motivated
  • Some travel will be required
