The Austen Riggs Center is a Psychodynamic, Psychiatric Residential Treatment Center, and a leading center for education and research located in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. The nursing staff provides care to adults (18+) and promotes resilience and self-direction with a focus on treating the individual and not the diagnosis. Minimum patient stay is 6-weeks.

Overview:

The nurse in this position, actively listens to patients in a consistent way, forges a therapeutic relationship, and fosters the patients’ strengths by supporting their adaptive capacity to handle stress. The nurse supports the patient to learn new ways of engaging in treatment, to make sense of relationships, and to join a therapeutic community where the other patients are also resources. The RN works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to provide medical and psychiatric nursing interventions and directs and guides other personnel in the delivery of nursing care. The Austen Riggs Center has opportunities for learning and the development of the RN at all levels.

Required qualifications include:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. RN/BSN preferred.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
  • Current CPR and CPI training/certification preferred, however will train.
  • Psychiatric nursing experience preferred, however willing to train the right candidate
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Possess the ability to be aware of the various dimensions of diversity, including gender, race, identity, and ethnicity.
  • Ability to concentrate despite interruptions, to tolerate anxiety and remain reflective under stress.
  • Ability to use computer, telephone, fax and other office equipment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Practices and promotes psychodynamic nursing while assessing, treating, and evaluating patients.
  • 1:1 meeting with patients.
  • Assessing physical and mental status.
  • De-escalate patients / Assists in managing crisis situations.
  • Administer medications.
  • Attends and contributes to Riggs clinical staff and patient community meetings
  • Attend team meetings weekly.
  • Facilitate therapeutic and community groups.
  • Participate in therapeutic community events with patients to enhance patient learning.
  • Participates in consultation /supervision to maximize skill development, including understanding the patient’s dynamic formulation, enhance creativity and developing the therapeutic use of self.
  • Maintains a stable, safe, and therapeutic environment.
  • Completes patient assessments (safety/ suicide, CIWA, COWS, functional, MoCA)
  • Speak directly, professionally, and respectfully.
  • Implements nursing process competently and writes comprehensive reports.

Work Hours/Shift

  • Ability to work a four, ten-hour shift per week schedule: Full-time and every other weekend.
    • 1pm - 11pm, 4 day x 10-hour shifts, or 5 day x 8-hour shifts, 2:30pm-10:30 pm. Flexibility to cover occasional daytime/morning shift is helpful.
    • Evening shifts available with flexibility to cover day or night shifts depending on staffing needs.

Salary range: $42.00-$45.00 an hour ** Not including shift differentials for evenings, nights, weekends, and charge. Benefits:
