General Description
Boys Hope Girls Hope is a holistic youth development program with an emphasis on academic excellence that serves young people in need from middle school through career launch. The Southern California affiliate currently operatesahome for boys and a home for girls, each with up to six middle and high school youth. Programming includes post-secondary support for college persistence and career preparation. The Program Director ensures programming is implemented in compliance with California licensing laws and the Boys Hope Girls Hope program model, policies, and procedures. Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Program Director is responsible for all program operations. This includes supervising team members and volunteers, directing all youth and family services, managing the relationship with schools and other community partners, and overseeing facility maintenance.
Specific Duties:
Personnel
- Works with the Executive Director to identify, screen, and hire qualified program team members.
- Coordinates training programs for the team and provides them with support, supervision, and guidance through weekly team meetings and at least monthly one-on-one meetings.
- Reviews residential team performance on an ongoing basis and prepares written evaluations at least annually.
- Designs and approves schedules of staffing, operation, and maintenance of group homes.
- Coordinates and oversees the engagement of program-related community volunteers.
Programming
- Ensures the safety and well-being of all scholars, the holistic care and educational components of the program and the effective operation of the homes
- Engages parents, guardians, and families in a strengths-based, culturally competent way as partners in the development of their young people.
- Establishes and maintains a referral network within the community in order to ensure a consistent flow of appropriate candidates for consideration.
- Implements the application, screening, and admission process for new scholars, in collaboration with the Program Committee.
- Develops and directs initial and ongoing service planning for scholars.
- Implements all aspects of the holistic Boys Hope Girls Hope program model by establishing a positive programmatic environment, ensuring routines and support structures, and fostering competency development for success in life, post-secondary, and future career dimensions.
- Oversees post-secondary support and alumni engagement programming.
- Leads program-related outcomes tracking, performance management (continuous quality improvement), and risk management.
Administration
- Develops and maintains professional relationships and ensures compliance with appropriate state and local licensing entities.
- Maintains documentation and case files as required by Boys Hope Girls Hope Network Headquarters and by state licensing.
- Satisfies all reporting requirements of Boys Hope Girls Hope Network Headquarters and state licensing.
- Provides input to the Executive Director in the development of the program’s operational and capital budget.
- Manages, disburses, and monitors petty cash accounts for the homes.
- Works with the Executive Director to complete all improvements and maintenance necessary for the effective operation and appearance of each group home.
- Works with the Executive Director to develop outside resources and materials for physical and programmatic improvement of each group home.
Working Conditions
The position is a senior management position requiring written and verbal communication. The position requires occasional travel in the United States to attend meetings convened by Network Headquarters and other professional gatherings. The Program Director may work at Boys Hope Girls Hope administrative offices and home locations.
Academic Background & Skills Required (Minimum)
A Master’s degree in education, social work, youth development or in a related field and two years’ experience, or a bachelor’s degree and three years’ experience in child welfare or youth development is generally preferred. Position requires proven skills in problem solving, staff supervision, and the ability to manage several projects and activities at the same time. Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred. Experience with California State Licensing laws and/or Group Home Administration preferred.
