Experience a year of service through AmeriCorps! One year term starts 11/7/22.

As a VISTA Associate at Citizen Schools, working in Downey, you will join a cohort of 20 AmeriCorps VISTA members placed at leading organizations across the country and participate in a year-long structured and collaborative learning pathway.

Objective

• develop and implement new making programming in the Library Makerspace,

• providing a test bed for free, public Maker programs being developed at the City’s Space Center.

• design community classes/workshops centering on 3D printing and scanning, using laser cutting equipment, 3D design and illustration and other topics.

Other duties will include:

• the recruitment of both potential programming partners and volunteers to help run the Makerspace.

• create a scaffolded Maker experience for the diverse communities of Southeast Los Angeles, who can begin in the free, public realm of the Library’s Makerspace and then refine their skills with the mentoring programming overseen by the Columbia Memorial Space Center.

• intentionally focus on increasing diversity, access and inclusion of local youth in Maker opportunities, using the free, open access of the public library as a platform.

• work with a Space Center colleague to develop culturally-relevant and community-informed programming to express the DEI values of both the Library and Space Center.
