The China Business Development Manager for Catalysis is responsible for implementing the development strategy focused on existing business Mixed Oxides and Aluminas for the automotive market. He is also in charge of hunting new business opportunities for Rare Earth base materials for emerging markets.
This includes conducting research to identify new markets and customer needs, arranging business meetings with prospective clients, gathering business information, building long-term relationships with new and existing customers, developing tactical plans and executing these plans in order to generate benefit and added value for the company.
The BDM China is based in Solvay Shanghai (China).
Responsibilities include:
On-going visits independently or jointly with sales & technical teams, to customers and to potential customers and any relevant key players to promote our solutions and capacity to develop sales, and to understand and anticipate their needs short to long term.
Propose, promote and accompany, internally and with customers, the development of Solvay product from the idea to the customer validation at industrial scale.
Identify new business opportunities and follow-up (meetings, samples, evaluations, validations, technology deployments).
Act as a project manager for the validation of new material at customers according to Global Market Manager strategy. This includes strong collaboration with the team of innovation, development , Industrial and Sales.
Solving issues by decision making and ability to build consensus and federate multiple stakeholders.
Build customer intimacy with identified key decision makers.
Maintain and continuously improve knowledge about products, applications, competitors and markets. Then translate to communicate efficiently to orientate the product development, the business strategy and its evolution.
Support the Global Market Managers in the SOLVAY Special Chem Technologies roadmap, Strategy and Budgets, providing insights from local market understanding
Requirements
Education in Engineering Sciences (Bachelor, PhD) with ability to learn fast technical aspects of Solvay chemical products.
Proven working experience as a Business Development Manager or a relevant role.
Eager to identify new customers or business opportunities, propose development strategies and implement them.
Good English communication and reporting
Ability to create strong networks and work with teams both multicultural and multifunctional.
Ability to build and work with schedule with high level of autonomy
Strong desire both to learn and to share knowledge
Ability to travel a large part of the working time
Results orientated, analytical skills and customer focus
Previous position in the Automotive Industry ( Chinese OEM, catalyst makers and Tier#1 Suppliers in the automotive aftertreatment technologies ) with strong understanding of the industry, and the technical requirements in the field of automotive emissions is a plus.
