What to Expect
Tesla’s Cell Materials Engineering group is looking for a highly motivated individual to be a Production Engineer lead for a novel battery chemical plant near Corpus Christi, TX. You, as a Production Engineer, will be initially focused on developing and deploying Commissioning and Startup procedures for the facility in close collaboration with Process Design and Construction teams. The position will transition to a run-plant engineer role after successful startup of the facility.

What You’ll Do

  • Work with the project team to develop an integrated Commissioning and Startup plan that delivers a safe, cost effective and schedule-optimized road map to stable plant operations.
  • Manage development and validation of commissioning procedures and check sheets
  • Manage and direct all commissioning and startup activities, working closely with project and process design teams to ensure seamless transition from mechanical completion and pre-commissioning of systems.
  • Ensure all Management of Change requirements are met throughout the commissioning and startup phase.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures for steady state operation of the plant including Integrity Operating Windows and Consequences of Deviation documents.
  • Participate in all pre-startup safety reviews and pre-startup Hazard Study activities.
  • Attend design review meetings as required, i.e. HAZOP, P&ID reviews, 3-D model reviews, DCS FAT/SAT, etc.
  • Support development of Operator training materials.
  • Maintain Future Optimization and Improvement List to seed realization of post-startup improvements.
  • Troubleshoot production problems utilizing first principles and develop sustainable solutions to improve process safety, reliability, efficiency and cost.
What You’ll Bring
  • Evidence of exceptional ability, including a strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and demonstrated ability to leverage this understanding to solve challenging technical problems.
  • 3+ years in a chemical manufacturing environment. Experience working on the development of chemical processing, solids handling or hydrometallurgical systems is a plus.
  • Ability to effectively work and communicate cross-functionally, including interfacing with project, engineering, and maintenance/reliability functions.
  • Proven ability to operate under pressure while managing multiple priorities simultaneously. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, occasionally requiring extended hours.
  • Aptitude to learn and incorporate new technologies.
  • Ability to identify issues and develop corrective measures to resolve.
  • Proven capacity to effectively work with cross-functional teams in achieving excellent results
