Coordinates, writes and produces mid-level programs and content for Houston Public Media (HPM). Determines the production needs of programs to best achieve project and organizational objectives.Job Duties

  • Develops and produces media for various projects in accordance with PBS Editorial Standards.
  • Oversees and provides guidance to junior production staff in the creation, writing and production of programs and content.
  • Coordinates media distribution and promotion across all platforms.
  • Conceives, develops and/or transforms program ideas and concepts into programs and/or promotional spots.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in media landscape.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications


Bachelors and 3 years experience

Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.

Houston Public Media is looking for a Producer 3 to work with our local talk show, Houston Matters with Craig Cohen. This producer will be responsible for helping plan and execute a daily talk show focusing on topics and issues that matter to our Houston radio listeners. This producer ideally has radio and/or television production experience, newsroom experience, and a natural curiosity for the world around them. This candidate will: · Present relevant, thoughtful topic ideas to the team · Research subject matter for assigned segments · Find and schedule suitable guests for assigned segments · Conduct pre-interview conversations with scheduled guests and submit notes to the host in a timely manner · Write basic scripts and teases for assigned segments · Line produce the show and screen phone calls on a rotating basis with other team members · Record and edit occasional recorded interviews either in studio, on location, or via remote connections · Record and edit recurring, monthly segments as assigned · Post show content on social media · Help create basic web articles from show segments · Participate in daily editorial meetings and communicate with newsroom staff about show content · Occasionally fill in for host · Participate in live, on-air fundraising segments as needed For your interview, come prepared to pitch three topics that might be appropriate for a daily topical news and public affairs talk show.
