American Bottoms Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility, located in Sauget Illinois, is seeking an experienced, Process Engineer. American Bottoms is a regional wastewater treatment facility providing services to Sauget, East St. Louis, Cahokia, and the surrounding communities. Position- Process Engineer
The Process Engineer is to fully understand the operation of facilities. This includes knowledge in all the equipment, personnel and operating procedures, and infrastructure. The Process Engineer researches and stays current on new plant process control mechanisms and finds ways to continuously improve the operation and equipment of the plant. Monitors plant data reports to find and resolve plant issues. Performs data analysis to troubleshoot and resolve plant process issues. Knowledgeable about compliance reporting such as but not limited to hazardous waste, non-hazardous waste, SARA, semi-annual and annual sludge reports. Understands and implements modern construction and bidding practices. Develops implements and manages plant projects. Prepares and maintains accurate and thorough records of all project related documents.
Routine Responsibilities
- Fully understand the operation of Facilities
- Maintain working knowledge of all equipment, process, personnel, and operating procedures.
- Understand the infrastructure of the facilities including the sewer system that feeds the plants.
- Research, learn and stay current on topics relevant to the plant.
- Be flexible and adapt to sudden changes in schedules, projects, or company processes.
- Research alternatives when solving problems.
- Understand and implements modern construction practices for plant projects.
- Find ways to continuously improve the operation and equipment of facilities.
- Evaluate and implement cost savings ideas.
- Give tours as needed and/or be able to discuss plant operations with visitors.
- Understand impacts of plant projects on existing process and equipment operation.
- Complete microscopic exams including staining and filament identification.
- Complete polymer jar testing of wastewater activated sludge.
- Develop field/laboratory testing for troubleshooting process issues or process improvements.
- Assist with the operation of facilities.
- Monitor data reports and notify operations personnel of issues.
- Troubleshoot plant process and equipment issues.
- Develop procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal environmental regulations including water, air, hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
- Improve forms for efficient data collection and shift communication.
Engineering Support for Projects
- Develop project lists based on repairs, improvements and/or replacement opportunities.
- Perform calculations and collect data to analyze options.
- Research and analyze alternatives for projects.
- Develop cost estimates for projects.
- Justify and get authorization for projects.
- Prepare bid documents or obtain quotes for projects depending on what is required.
- Review bids and quotes and make recommendations for award.
- Manage and monitor contractor work.
- Coordinate training requirements with Operations Specialist for all new equipment installations.
- Maintain accurate and thorough records such as drawings, cost estimates, O&M manuals for all project related work.
- Prepare preventive maintenance checklists for all new equipment.
Other Responsibilities
- Maintain all Operations documents as needed to comply with regulations.
- Keep others informed when there are problems or issues.
- Assist with training of new operators.
- Assist with writing new standard operating procedures.
- Mentor operators and senior operators to improve technical proficiencies.
- Assist Operations Specialist, Operations Coordinator and Operations Manager as needed.
- Fill in for Operations Manager.
- Receive hauled waste loads which includes taking proper samples and completion of manifests and tracking forms.
Knowledge/Skills
- Wastewater/water experience preferred
- Familiar with OSHA regulations
- Proficient in Microsoft office and Auto Cad
Experience & Education
- 3+ years of experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (civil, mechanical, chemical, electrical)
