Tribune Publishing is looking to hire part-time Editorial News Page Designers to work for our Design and Production Studio (DPS), home to all print design for Tribune Publishing's award-winning newspapers across the country. The team is fully remote but must reside in a state noted below.

Duties for our designers (Print Production Specialists) may vary. Responsibilities include designing pages, writing display type and proofing sections for all Tribune print publications. Successful candidates will possess good news judgment, attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy. The ability to multitask and perform well on deadline in a remote work environment is a must. Print Production Specialists should have a strong command of the English language as well as a developed set of newspaper editing and design skills.

This role can be based in any of these states: CA, CT, FL, IA, IL, IN, MD, MI, MO, NJ, NY, OK, PA, TN, TX and VA.

Responsibilities

A Print Production Specialist’s responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

• Editing and designing newspaper pages with speed and accuracy.

• Employing excellent news judgment and creativity to create pages that are easy-to-read, visually appealing and informative.

• Trimming stories and writing headlines, captions and other display type.

• Checking display type for grammar, punctuation, clarity and accuracy.

• Proofreading pages appearing in all Tribune Publishing newspapers.

• Working with local editors in a remote environment.

• Selecting, cropping and toning photos for publication.

• Meeting production deadlines and maintaining page flow.

Qualifications

This could be a match if you have:

• A minimum of 2 years of editing and design experience at a news publication.

• Strong newspaper design skills and experience with Adobe InDesign.

• A broad knowledge of AP Style and the rules of grammar, spelling and punctuation.

• Experience writing strong, accurate headlines and display type.

• An ability to multi-task in a fast-paced deadline-driven remote environment.

• An ability to collaborate with peers, supervisors and local newsrooms.

• A strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit.

• A willingness to work evenings/weekends and irregular hours.
