About the job

Our computational challenges are so big, complex and unique we can't just purchase off-the-shelf hardware, we've got to make it ourselves. Your team designs and builds the hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google's services. As a Hardware Engineer, you design and build the systems that are the heart of the world's largest and most powerful computing infrastructure. You develop from the lowest levels of circuit design to large system design and see those systems all the way through to high volume manufacturing. Your work has the potential to shape the machinery that goes into our cutting-edge data centers affecting millions of Google users.

In this role, you will be involved with working cross-functionally with silicon, systems, software engineering, technology teams, and product teams to deliver highly optimized power and analog systems solutions at a system level for Google Augmented Reality (AR)/Virtual Reality (VR) devices.

The Google Augmented Reality team is a diverse group of experts tasked with building the foundations for great immersive computing and building helpful, delightful user experiences. We're focused on making immersive computing accessible to billions of people through mobile devices, and our scope continues to grow and evolve.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement data-driven system power solutions to optimize system parameters (e.g., efficiency, size, cost, etc.).
  • Work with other hardware engineers to analyze power tree architecture and component selection trade-offs, and work cross-functionally across the organization to drive solutions.
  • Communicate with leading power vendors and track industry trends, and collaborate/influence partners to obtain solutions/features for AR hardware.
  • Design and implement proof of concept power solutions to next generation designs, silicon IP, and author/complete verification test protocols with support from vendors and internal test teams.
  • Architect power delivery solutions, debug/test hardware and/or power models that allow for effective characterization of proposed power solutions, including software development to support these tools.
