Police Officer
The Town of Valdese (approximate population 4,689) is located in the foothills of the Blue RidgeMountains of Western North Carolina, 70 miles west of Charlotte, where the “foothills meet the mountains”. Founded in 1893 by twenty-nine Waldensian settlers from the Cottian Alps of Italy, we have a deep respect for our unique heritage which we celebrate annually with special events and festivals. We have a thriving downtown featuring specialty restaurants, shops and historic attractions.The Town provides a full range of municipal services.
The Town of Valdese is currently seeking a full-time Police Officer. Employee will perform work that includes patrolling the Town during an assigned shift in a police car, or on foot; preventing, detecting and investigating disturbances and crime; performing traffic control work; apprehending suspects; and executing related assignments. Employees must exercise judgement, initiative and calm control when performing duties; problems that are more difficult normally carried out under the direction of or in conjunction with a Police Sergeant assigned to the same shift. Work involves frequent public contact, which requires tact, firmness and decisiveness. Work performed in accordance with departmental policy and state and federal law, supplemented with specific directions from superior officers. Employees are subject to hazards associated with law enforcement work including working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as dangerous persons, loud noises, and hazardous spills with fumes, oils, gases, or flammable liquids. Work is subject to the final OSHA standards on blood borne pathogens.
Education and Special Requirements: Graduation from high school or equivalent.Completion of BLET – Basic Law Enforcement Training ProgramBe at least 20 years of ageUnited States CitizenProcess a valid NC Driver’s LicenseHave a background free from criminal offenses
Compensation and Benefits: The Town of Valdese offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.The hiring rate for this position if $37, 007 – 55,511. The Town provides a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, and life insurance; wellness program; Local GovernmentEmployees Retirement System (LGERS) contribution; annual vacation and sick leave; paid holidays in accordance with the North Carolina State Holiday Schedule.
