Job description
The Plant Controller is a key financial position at a production facility for Cloverdale Foods Company. The Plant Controller is responsible for the execution and oversight of the plant-level financial and reporting functions. Responsibilities will include annual budgeting, production forecasting, bills of materials analysis, financial variance analysis, and cost accounting in the future. Ultimately, the position's focus is on fostering continuous improvement, managing daily financial transactions and generating monthly financial reports, and nurturing a culture of partnership between finance and plant operations. The Plant Controller reports directly to the Senior Financial Analyst.
Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the accounting functions of the plant and insures that its execution follows Corporate accounting and finance policies and procedures. General areas of accounting responsibility are: General ledger and all supporting sub ledgers, including fixed assets, inventories, cash, prepaids, payables, accruals.
2. Leads/executes monthly financial close process, reconcilement/internal control, and reporting cycle in manufacturing environment.
3. Preparation of budgets, forecasts, and internal management reporting.
4. Executes capital project tracking and reporting and supports corporate fixed asset accounting.
5. Plant-level tax compliance (sales and use and property)
6. Maintains monthly yield reporting and other plant-level performance metrics.
7. Ensures ERP postings are done accurately and timely.
8. Preparation of daily/weekly/monthly plant performance reports.
9. Preparation of monthly reporting for all manufacturing.
10. Provide financial leadership to the Plant Management team.
11. Partner with Operations Management to identify and eliminate waste.
12. Provide leadership and direction to accounting staff to include development opportunities, performance management, and individual development plans.
13. Maintain accurate inventory records.
14. Prepare and record monthly journal entries.
15. Audit, analyze, and maintain Standard Bill of Materials.
Skills and Abilities
1. Experience leading and developing a team of people responsible for accounting activities.
2. Excellent data analysis skills with a focus on problem solving.
3. Strong computer skills, specifically in Excel and Microsoft Dynamics 365.
4. Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to delegate effectively.
5. Effective oral and written communication skills.
6. Ability to communicate and work with employees at all levels of the organization as well as external stakeholders.
7. Perform tasks with a high level of confidentiality.
8. Flexible and positive in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
Education and Requirements:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (Finance with strong accounting experience will be considered).
2. A minimum of five years of broad-based industry accounting experience.
3. Experience in Cost Accounting
4. CPA and audit experience are desirable.
5. Demonstrated skill in organization, planning, problem solving, decision making, communication, project management and effective management of resources.
6. Excellent interpersonal skills that allow effective working relationships with a diverse customer, colleague, and vendor population. This includes listening, written and oral communication skills.
7. Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment.
8. Experience with ERP and RedZone preferred.
9. Strong administrative and data management skills.
10. Experience in food processing or manufacturing is desired.
11. Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form.
12. Must have the ability to discern when issues may require input from your expertise.
