Job Summary:

Assists general public with zoning verification and rezoning applications and provides information regarding land use, setbacks, subdivision plats, street/road names, and house numbering system. Researches and provides background information for Planning Committee meetings and public hearings.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Assists the public in researching zoning verifications and rezoning applications. Verifies building permit information, reviews zoning maps and tax maps, writes zoning and parcel number on permits; approves permit or discusses other options and refers applicant to Planners; assigns numbers to new subdivisions.
  • Answers zoning questions in person or over telephone. Provides general information regarding application procedures; notifies property owners and schedules meetings for appeals.
  • Provides information concerning house numbers for specific properties. Reviews tax maps and house numbering files to obtain number or assigns a number for new lots.
  • Assists in preparing staff reports for Planning Commission by researching rezoning and annexation applications.
  • Interviews persons applying for building, soil erosion, business license, or zoning permits. Reviews zoning, determines requirements, and provides applicant instructions for timing, order, and type of approvals required.
  • Assists in zoning verifications, review, and approval of subdivision plats.
  • Maintains departmental records, including cash receipts.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education and Experience:

  • Associate's degree in Planning or related field.
  • Two years of related experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the minimum level of qualifications stated above.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Class I Drivers License and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of zoning, planning and land use laws, rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures and policies.
  • Ability to enter and retrieve data from the computer.
  • Ability to deal courteously and diplomatically with the general public.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read zoning maps and aerial photos.
  • Ability to prepare and present a variety of concise reports for oral and written presentation.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $17.39 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
