South Bend Orthopaedics is seeking a Full-Time Physician Assistant to join our well-established and busy practice. The PA would work in a 1-to-1 model with Dr. Sam Fuller who specializes in upper extremity and plastics. This position will share time between assisting in surgery (approximately two days a week) and running a clinic practice schedule (approximately two-three days a week).

Dr. Fuller specializes in hand, wrist, and forearm surgery. His diverse training allows him to bring a very unique “hybrid” approach to the upper extremity. Dr. Fuller has won numerous awards throughout his training and career, including the 2016 Michael S. Murphy Research Award for his research, "Design and Use of a Novel Coupling Device for Tendon Repair and Reconstruction." Dr. Fuller and his co-authors also won Best Hand Paper in 2014 from the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal for, "Fat Transfer to the Upper and Lower Extremity in Patients with Raynaud's Phenomenon- A Novel Therapeutic Modality."He was also recently voted to Michiana Forty Under 40. Dr. Fuller participates in medical mission trips, leads regional cadaver dissection courses, and routinely gives lectures and presentations on his broad and rewarding practice.

The PA must have a strong desire to focus their clinical skills on general musculoskeletal acute and chronic injuries.

The Physician Assistant will join the advanced practitioner team and be required to take weekend call shared amongst 12 practitioners.

Job Duties:

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat acute and chronic orthopedic conditions
  • Work autonomously while maintaining a close working relationship with SBO Physicians.
  • Provide exceptional medical care to patients with musculoskeletal conditions. Possess strong communication and display professionalism when working with patients, families, and the community.
  • Demonstrate proficiency and comfort with all methods of patient electronic documentation and communication.
  • First assist for surgical cases
  • Rounding on inpatient cases

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • Current certification by the NCCPA
  • Active Indiana Physician Assistant license with no restrictions
  • Orthopedic experience preferred but not required.
