Personal Care Assistants & Special Education Paraprofessionals
Available at all Elementary Schools and Patton Middle School
Available Immediately
6.5 hours/day, 185 days per year
(plus 30 min. duty-free, unpaid lunch break)
Optional Summer Hours Available during Extended School Year (ESY)
(half-days for six weeks in summer)
Daily Hours through the School Year are:
8:45 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. (elementary)
7:45 a.m. - 2:45 p.m. (secondary)
Rate determined by the position assigned.
PCA and Paraprofessional - $13.95 per hour
PCA Specialist - $16.07 per hour
Hiring incentive for new hires:
- $500 after one month of employment*
- $500 after six months of employment
- $500 after 12 months of employment
- $500 after 24 months of employment
- if hired after 5/1, incentive paid in 2nd pay in Sept. of following school year
Positions are Benefits Eligible after 90 days
Training provided.
QUALIFICATIONS: To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill, and/or ability necessary.
- A Paraprofessional must be Highly Qualified as required by federal and state statutes. To be Highly Qualified, this person must hold an Associate’s degree or have successfully completed 48 college credits or hold Credential of Competency; or successfully complete a Para Pro Assessment after hire.
- Twenty (20) hours of annual training; and clearance as MA provider by the Commonwealth of PA and the federal government (conducted by UCFSD upon hire)
- Hold current CPR and First Aid certification or willing to secure these certifications.
- Well organized with good time management skills.
- Knowledge of academic environment, procedures, and policies.
- Must successfully complete and maintain compliance with all federal and state background and criminal record check requirements.
- Candidate must adhere to all local, state, federal, and school code requirements for employment.
Position Summary: Personal Care Assistant will be with the student for the full school day to assist with access to the educational environment as well as peer interactions. Assistance will include, but is not limited to:
- Ensuring student’s safety within the school building and surrounding areas
- Support student’s academic, social, adaptive, motor, communication, and behavioral needs
- Escort student to and from the bus, classes, nurse, therapies, etc.
- Provide prompts across settings
- Utilize behavioral system (i.e. token economy)
- Supervise and monitor inclusive activities throughout the school day
- Transition student between activities
- Support sensory/exercise program
