Catawba Hospital has full-time, entry-level positions available for individuals interested in working with adult and/or geriatric psychiatric patients. These positions are eligible for day, evening, night, or Baylor shifts. Shift differentials are provided for evening, night and weekend shifts.
Certification as a Nursing Assistant is not required, but is expected within 12 months; Catawba Hospital in partnership with the Goodcare Program will pay the cost for this training and pay the employee while they are in training. In addition, Catawba Hospital does not mandate overtime.
Any overtime worked will be paid at one and one-half times the regular hourly rate of pay.
Catawba Hospital located in Catawba, Virginia has been chosen as Employer of the Year by Goodwill Industries of the Valleys for 2021 . Located approximately 15 miles from Roanoke, Virginia we are a Joint Commission accredited inpatient psychiatric facility with 110 beds that provides comprehensive mental-health services including assessment, treatment, and discharge planning. The Hospital located in Roanoke County, serves adults, ages 18 – 64, and geriatric adults, ages 64 and older. Individualized treatment is provided through interdisciplinary teams, which include: psychiatry, internal medicine, nursing, social work, psychology, adjunctive therapy, pharmacy, and dietary services. Off-unit programs in a newly-designed treatment mall emphasize psychiatric rehabilitation, recovery from mental illness, and re-integration into the community. Catawba is a highly-respected teaching hospital affiliated with several local colleges, as well as, the University of Virginia School of Medicine.
A fingerprint-based criminal history check will be required of the finalist candidates for this position under VA Code 2.2 – 1201.1.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Stable work history is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous work experience in a healthcare setting is preferred but not required.
