The LIEOC at Farmingdale State College has 3 units: Hempstead, Farmingdale, and Brentwood and we are looking for tutors. The tutors will be responsible for:

• Assisting students in one-on-one and small-group learning sessions focused on Math and/or English preparation for TABE, TASC, or English as a Second Language and college entrance exams.
• Facilitating tutoring sessions that balance overall student learning goals with the imminent demands of an assignment.
• Documenting student learning and progress.
• Participating in staff meetings and training sessions.
• Assist students with resume writing and cover letters.

Chosen candidates must have flexible hours.

Looking for tutors to assist with Math, English and ESL. Please indicate your abilities in your cover letter.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of Associate's Degree or appropriate certification(s) in related field
• Strong language arts and/or math skills in related field
• Experience teaching/tutoring English as a Second Language student population
• Experience teaching/tutoring adult learners and special student populations
• Inter-personal qualities conducive to one-on-one and small-group interactions

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to communicate with people of diverse backgrounds

Salary: $17/hour, may increase commensurate with experience
