Job description
The City of Cedar Falls has an opening for a part-time (up to 29 hrs/wk) Maintenance Worker with primary assignment to the Refuse Section, but could be utilized throughout the Operations & Maintenance Division, as needed. Typical hours range from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mon-Fri. and an occasional Saturday.
Position includes a variety of general maintenance and construction duties including the operation of automated and semi-automated refuse collection, recycling, Transfer Station, street, and water reclamation equipment such as dump trucks, snowplows, end loaders, skid steer loaders, and other Public Works equipment for related duties.
Qualifications
Candidates must have completed the 10th grade, or equivalent, and a combination of experience and training providing the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: positive interaction with the public; operation of hand and power tools, and equipment; safety practices and precautions necessary to operate mechanized equipment; perform manual labor requiring physical strength and endurance to perform maintenance and construction; understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions; and develop the skills necessary for the maintenance and operation of assigned equipment.
Special Requirements
Candidates must also have: a valid driver's license, good driving record and possession of (or ability to obtain and maintain) the appropriate Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Position is subject to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse queries, driver's license and driving record reviews, and DOT random drug and alcohol screenings. Upon a conditional offer of employment, a physical exam including lifting assessment and drug screen will be required. Equal Opportunity Employer
