Position Title: Assistant Greenhouse Manager (working title). Per City Department of Civil Service, this position is classified as a Parkways Maintenance Section Assistant

Summary Description: The person hired for this position will be the second in command over the operation of five greenhouses and will be trained to one day replace the current Greenhouse Manager

Preferred Educational Qualifications: bachelor's degree in: Forestry Park Management, Agronomy, Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Botany, Plant Science, Floriculture or a related field may be substituted for five (5) years of the required experience.

Pay: $48,665

Licensure Requirements: The following licenses are preferred but only the LA Arborist’s license is required.

• LA driver’s license
• LA Department of Agriculture and Forestry Pesticide Applicator’s License, Category 3 – Ornamental and Turf Pest Control
• LA Arborist’s License-Required
• Louisiana Landscape Horticulturalist

Preferred Experience/Knowledge:

At least one year in greenhouse operations and the supervision/delegation of tasks to employees (with no college degree, a minimum of six years would be required); knowledge of greenhouse operating systems and concepts of shade, humidity, temperature, and ventilation

Interested applicants must be current residents of Orleans Parish or be willing to relocate to the parish within six months of being hired.

This position is designated as Essential and Emergency Personnel and will be required to report for duty during declared emergencies of any size

Tasks/Responsibilities:

• Growing bedding plants
• Supervise/delegate work assignments to greenhouse staff, roughly five people
• Operate greenhouse fogging system
• Place orders for plants, trays, and other greenhouse supplies to support annual flower production and spring and fall planting
• Growing a variety of annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, and related vegetation
• Up-potting and fertilizing
• Recognize and control insect pests and fungal diseases in vegetation
• Turf maintenance, using small, mechanized equipment
• Volunteer engagement, working with community members to take interest in city greenspaces
• Tree planting permitting inspection assistance to in-house landscape architects, if so qualified
