Paralegal/Real Estate Closing – Legal Department, Jones Petroleum Co., Inc.
Provides transaction closing support to attorneys. Primary Duties & Responsibilities would include, but are not limited to: preparation of documents for real estate title insurance policies, researching and preparing legal documents, including preparation of deeds and other documents necessary to complete real estate transactions, both residential and commercial, in the State of Georgia; coordination with banking institutions in gathering information necessary to close real estate transactions; preparation and maintenance of legal files; pulling of court documents from dockets; filing of legal documents and court papers with various courts and online court systems; reviewing and calendaring of requests for assistance from other departments, and evaluation of the need for departmental involvement in matters; serving as communication liaison between the department and outside attorneys, courts and employees in other departments; performing of research of real estate filings and records maintained online with the Georgia Superior Court Clerks’ Cooperative Authority; maintenance of records on the status and deadlines associated with cases and real estate transactions being undertaken; tracking of case statuses; maintenance and organization of files for the department; preparation of a variety of correspondence; responding to inquiries received from other departments; coordination of the payment process for outside attorney services utilized by the department; may provide guidance or training to less experienced paralegals, legal assistants, or other staff; performance of other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED ANDthe ability to type, exhibit high level of attention to detail, organization, and strong communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications: A Paralegal Certificate or at least five (5) years of experience working in an attorney’s office, preferably handling real estate closings from beginning to end.
Other equivalent experience considered would be experience working in a courthouse setting, such as in a Clerk of Superior Court’s office, Magistrate or Probate Court, preferably in the State of Georgia, or in a banking institution working on financing for real estate transactions.
Candidates must have extensive experience with word processing software such as Microsoft Word and/or Corel WordPerfect, along with spreadsheets such as Excel. Candidates must be familiar with and have the ability to type legal pleadings in proper form as is acceptable by courts.
