SUMMARY:
Under basic supervision, Vaccinators are responsible for administering the COVID-19 vaccine and may assist with other clinical roles as needed, such as registration, screening, and observation. Observers are responsible for monitoring patients for adverse or allergic reactions after receiving vaccinations and responding to emergency situations following intervention protocols in the event of an adverse vaccine reaction. Ensures all equipment and medications are available and prepared for emergency responses.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

When Performing Vaccinator Duties:
· Draws up vaccines according to manufacturer’s instructions and administers them using safe and proper techniques and a system of double checks to ensure accuracy.
· Disposes of bio-hazardous waste in the appropriate and prescribed manner.
· Maintains confidentiality at all times.
When Performing Observation Duties:
· Monitors patients after vaccination to ensure no life threating reactions are occurring; administers appropriate medical intervention as directed by protocols or other Medical authorities.
· Assists clinical staff in the administration of the COVID vaccine to approved patients.
· Inspects medical inventory to ensure appropriate materials and equipment are available to include masks, antihistamine, adrenaline injections, and oxygen; checks expiration dates on medication and syringes and removes any that are out of date; fills oxygen tanks as needed.
· Supports the relationship between the Teton County staff and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Active professional nursing license (LPN or RN) or EMT, Medical Assistant training and certification in the state of Wyoming; AND one (1) year of prior professional experience preferred; OR equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Current CPR certification with documentation.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license as required by the position.
Required Knowledge of:
· Intramuscular injection technique and subcutaneous injection technique
· Adverse and allergic vaccination reactions.
· Anaphylaxis protocols.
· Safe syringe handling and disposal practices.
· Tools, materials, and equipment used in emergency medical responses.
Required Skills in:
- Providing information to and from appropriate individuals via strong communication skills
- Identifying life threatening emergencies.
- Following established protocols and procedures.
- Maintaining composure in stressful situations.
- Administering adrenaline injections.
- Maintaining accurate medical supply inventories.
- Drawing up and administering vaccinations and other injections.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in mass vaccination clinics that are conducted both indoors and in outdoor clinics. May be exposed to inclement weather conditions. Exposure to potentially contagious illnesses and diseases, and accidental needle sticks may occur. Strict adherence to health and safety measures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment is required.
