Private Nurse for Mid-70s Man in Lake Wylie, SC

We are hiring for a private nurse, 9pm to 8am four days a week (specific days flexible), $28 an hour, based at a private residence in Lake Wylie, SC.

Duties

You will be helping a mid-70s man who is active and independent but recently had an epileptic seizure. The anti-seizure medication has been fully effective. There are still some cognitive and OT/PT needs to be addressed.

He needs help with short term memory, taking medications daily, meals, using the bathroom, accompanying him on walks, balance, and driving to appointments. He has also had cancer (nasopharangeal carcinoma) for the past three years and is doing well with immunotherapy. He has a pacemaker as of summer 2022 as well. He is retired and enjoys time outside with friends, his dog, and wife.

Your main focus will be assisting with acute PT/OT needs over first several months post-seizure and keeping a skilled eye on him, so both he and his wife can live normal lives. For example, she can go play tennis and buy groceries without worry, since you’ll be in the house with him. You’ll also make sure he puts on a life jacket and watch him if he’s in his pool or in the lake, and accompany him when he walks his dog, which is a well-trained springer spaniel.

We need you to keep a friendly and watchful eye on him. And should he have any more seizures or other health complications, you’ll be able to quickly help him and escalate further as appropriate. We hope he’s medically boring 99% of the time, and we are hiring experienced nurses for the 1% of time when he isn’t.

Experience

Ideally you have experience with at least one of: epilepsy patients, cognitive rehabilitation, physical therapy, or occupational therapy. Those are not mandatory requirements. We are looking for both strong nursing skills to keep him safe, and a personality fit with him and his wife.

Schedule

The schedule is 9pm-8am four days per week.

Pay and Benefits

This role will be entirely ‘on the books’ – you will be paid through a payroll service. We are happy to customize the pay structure to your needs and preferences. For example, we can pay you some of your pay via a retirement plan so you can save money for retirement on a pre-tax basis, or we can enable you to pay for your health insurance costs on a pre-tax basis, or everything can be paid to you as taxable compensation. We think of you as the third member of our household, so all meals are included (you’ll eat with us), and we will add your food preferences to the weekly grocery list, so the house will be stocked for you as well. You’ll also use our cars to drive him around. We think this will be a long-tern arrangement – keeping an eye on him will remain important for everyone’s peace of mind. We also know that it can be hard to find high-quality jobs and will thus offer you either meaningful advance notice if the position ends, or meaningful severance.
