Department Description
The Office of Investments oversees a multi-billion dollar endowment, broadly diversified across a range of asset classes. The primary role of the endowment is to advance the research mission of the University through support of the annual operating budget. Endowment assets are invested in public securities, including U.S. and non-U.S. equity and fixed income securities, and private investments including private equity, venture capital and real assets. The assets are invested by external investment managers through separate accounts or commingled vehicles, including funds, trusts and limited partnerships. In addition to overseeing the endowment, the Office of Investments plays an active role in planning and executing the University's external capital program including debt financings and interest rate swaps, and in maintaining the University's rating agency relationships. The University is rated Aa1/AA+ by Moody's and Standard and Poor's.
Detailed Description
The Operations Analyst will report to the Director of Endowment Operations and interact with all members of the investment team, investment managers, service providers, and other departments in the University. The Operations Analyst's duties will include but are not limited to organizing and processing manager data including monthly asset values and performance data for new and prospective investments, processing and recording capital calls, investments, redemptions, and other flows. Will record and track cash and stock distributions, assist with coding distributions for cost/gain etc., and serve as a point of contact for communications between the Investments Office, Finance, and third-party vendors (e.g., for the quarterly reconciliation process). The Operations Analyst will collaborate with existing software providers to better utilize existing offerings, encourage the development of new ones, and ensure the accuracy of the data that sits on those platforms. Will be responsible for assisting with inquiries related to annual audits, filing financial statements, and rating agency requests. Will be responsible for centralizing key data collection of new and ongoing investments, such as liquidity terms, holdings, and performance details, as well as communications from fund managers and inbound communications. Will initiate related workflows and processes and maintain the document management system. Will complete subscription packages and new account set-up for investments, track liquidity terms for underlying investments, and monitor the endowment's overall liquidity. Will work with the investment team to prepare regular and ad hoc investment portfolio monitoring reports.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree required, accounting a plus. Must possess the highest level of integrity and professionalism and be intellectually curious with an interest in investments, investment accounting, and financial markets. Must be able to work independently and autonomously, as well as collaboratively. Excellent computer skills required, particularly with MS Excel. Must be a highly motivated individual with a willingness to learn and contribute to the team. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple work streams and deadlines required. CPA preferred, but not required.
