The Powder Magazine Museum is a small business in Charleston, SC. We are customer-centric, collaborative, engaging and our goal is to share the history of Charleston's colonial period with visitors and students. Completed in 1713, The Powder Magazine is South Carolina's oldest government building and was built as part of Charleston’s walled city fortification system. The building was used for gunpowder storage from 1713-1748 and during the American Revolution. After 1780, it was retired, and by the early 19th century, it was privately owned. In 1902, The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in The State of South Carolina purchased the building, saving it from demolition..

The Operations Administrator manages the Powder Magazine's in-museum giftshop/online retail of the museum. The position also assists the Director with administrative duties as may be required for the healthy operation of the museum. The position, when able, assists the museum staff in their execution of tour duties.

Education: Minimum- High School diploma, undergraduate degree in history or related field, preferred. Position requires excellent verbal communication, active listening skills, and social perceptiveness. Excellent computer skills are essential.

Experience: 1-3 years’ work experience, or a combination of degree and work experience.
