Job Title: Onboard Entertainer/Musician

Reports To: Special Events and Entertainment Manager

Location: Bryson City, North Carolina

Compensation: $12-$15/hr, Plus Tips (DOE)

Job Summary: The Musician/Onboard Entertainer travels from car to car providing musical entertainment and customer service for the passengers during the rail excursion.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for entertaining passengers onboard general excursions and specialty trains when requested.
• Time management is necessary onboard the train to ensure that all guests have equal amount of interaction and music.
• Entertain passengers by curating songs based on specialty celebrations, ie. Birthdays, Honeymoon, Anniversary etc.
• Have broad knowledge of songs that best represent GSMR and its’ surrounding region in addition be prepared for songs requested on a regular basis. Example: Rocky Top
• Always maintain a professional appearance in GSMR approved attire.
• Comply with GSMR policy, procedures and safety program including Safety Rules, Operating Rules and participation in ongoing safety training/regular daily safety meetings with onboard staff.
• Complete required paperwork and recordkeeping in a timely manner when requested.
• Other duties as requested by the Special Events and Entertainment Manager and/or Sr. Management.

Work Environment:

• Work on and off the train in varied terrain in all weather during both daylight and dark hours.
• Enclosed and Open-Air Moving Train Cars.
• Works directly with the public.

Education, Skill and Work Experience Requirements:

• Ability to play an acoustic instrument, preferably a fiddle, guitar, or banjo.
• Ability and willingness to sing and play instrument in front on an audience in a non-concert setting without amplification.
• Must have a minimum of 2 years entertainment experience or experience in related area.
• Must be familiar with Appalachia history, and music of the Appalachia/ Bluegrass etc.
• Must be able to interact effectively with coworkers and customers.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule with morning, night, weekend and holiday hours.
