Department: Nursing Education Admin

Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours, Days

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Nursing Products Manager acts as a change agent within the organization by identifying, prioritizing, and recommending improvements in efficiencies, resource allocation, cost and utilization of clinical products for the nursing department. This individual is a patient safety champion, investigating safety concerns that involve products thoroughly in collaboration with risk management and other stakeholders. Acting as a resource to the nursing team, this individual represents the nursing department with the Supply Chain and Biomedical Engineering and helps to drive seamless change to products that ensure the highest level of clinical nursing practice.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
  • Acts as a change agent within the organization by identifying, prioritizing, and recommending improvements in efficiencies, resource allocation, cost and utilization of clinical products for the nursing department.
  • Act as a patient safety champion, investigating safety concerns that involve products thoroughly in collaboration with risk management, Biomedical Engineering and other stakeholders.
  • Acts as an infection prevention champion collaborating with the Infection Prevention team to promote best practices/products to prevent Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs).
  • Serves as a nursing resource and provides appropriate consultation with other organizational departments and leadership to support product selection(s), product trials, and implementation of product changes.
  • In conjunction with Supply Chain, determines acceptable clinical substitutes for items on backorder related to nursing practice. Involves key stakeholders. Keeps Supply Chain team informed of product substitution decisions.
  • Promotes and supports standardization opportunities, clinical improvement, and innovation.
  • Promotes reductions in supply chain and nursing budgets in product selection while balancing quality assurance considerations.
  • Manages patient care rental equipment; beds, wound vac, etc., to assure efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Partners with rental companies for better patient outcomes and financial efficiency.
  • Participates in interdepartmental meetings related to education and in-servicing of new clinical products.
  • In cooperation with other disciplines, ensures proper protocols, policies and procedures, and nursing education occur and are documented as required by regulatory entities.
  • Develop and/or review policies, processes, protocols, and products, utilizing input from appropriate stakeholders, to ensure effectiveness and compliance for quality improvement and value based initiatives.
  • Ensures that projects, programs, and products are evidence-based; considering current literature, research, and best practices. Stays abreast of industry trends and maintains knowledge of professional practice changes.
  • Partners with others to enhance health care through interdisciplinary activities such as education, consultation, management, technical development, or product changes.
  • Contributes to Nursing leadership and teamwork and serves as subject matter advisor between the Nursing Department and Supply Chain Operations. Participates in the planning and implementation of new technologies, procedures, and services to support day-to-day operations and clinical nursing practice.
  • Partners with members of Nursing Professional Development (NPD) in the Orientation and Integration of RN's, Unit Coordinators, CNA's, and Travel RN's.
  • Contributes and supports ANCC Magnet recognition framework by writing documents that assist nursing leadership's vision for an environment that supports strong professional practice which aligns with the mission, vision, and values that support Exceptional Care without Exception at Boston Medical Center.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in related field.

EXPERIENCE:

Must have a minimum of five years of experience in in a similar healthcare/clinical experience

Previous project management, data collection and analysis required

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
  • Ability to provide leadership and coordinate the work of a team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to be detailed oriented in all notes and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in areas such as program development/management and problem solving.
  • Ability to achieve targeted results through motivating, mobilizing, and delegating to others.
  • Experience with Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet and web page usage/updating, social networking and other technologies that can be used to further carry the program's mission.
  • Demonstrated skills in the provision of services in a multicultural environment.
  • Experience with managing complex systems and budget a plus.
