FUNCTION: To plan, organize, implement, and evaluate a designated area of instruction within the Amarillo College Associate Degree Nursing Program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Promoting high standards of excellence in assigned courses.
- Preparing, organizing, presenting and evaluating didactic and clinical instruction in accordance with the philosophy and outcomes of the program and the college.
- Developing and utilizing approved syllabi in collaboration with other faculty members.
- Identifying student learning outcomes for the assigned course(s) that flow from program outcomes.
- Attending monthly nursing faculty meetings, as scheduled by the ADN Program Director.
- Assuming responsibility and accountability as a team member in the institution, classroom and clinical area. This will include the support of the College and program mission, philosophy, and outcomes to students and the community as well as demonstrating positive morale and team spirit.
- Participating in ongoing, systematic development, implementation, and evaluation of the total program.
- Participating in committees as outlined in the ADN Faculty Organizational Rules and Regulations, and providing input on policies regarding recruitment, admission, retention, promotion and graduation of students.
- Participating in the development of ADN Program and institutional policies.
- Providing clinical, lab and/or didactic instruction and evaluation of students.
- Making clinical assignments that correlate with didactic instruction.
- Taking student schedules to each clinical facility as soon as possible each semester.
- Testing and evaluating student progress in relation to student learning outcomes and evaluation criteria of the ADN Program.
- Providing academic advisement and guidance of students.
- Maintaining student records.
- Completing clinical evaluations and classroom grading assignments promptly.
- Ensuring confidentiality of student records.
- Informing the ADN Program Director of incidents involving students, including progress through the program.
- Remaining informed and competent in major trends in the specific areas of instruction, methodology, and technology.
- Adhering to the dress code and other policies of the nursing program and clinical agencies.
- Assisting in the Nursing Resource Center as needed.
- Participating in faculty development programs.
- Maintaining professional competence through practice, continuing education, and professional activities.
- Creating an atmosphere of mutual respect for students, faculty, and others by recognizing each person as an individual with unique, specific needs.
- Maintaining office hours for students according to college policy.
- Performing other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS:
- Master's Degree in Nursing
- Current and unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas
EXPERIENCE:
- Nursing experience in the clinical area in which one is teaching
- Participation in professional organizations
- Evidence of competence in teaching, curriculum development
- Evidence of continued education
