Job description
The Program:
At Morningstar, we want people who are smart, creative, hard-working, curious, and passionate about their work. We hire all majors, including liberal arts, as we appreciate the different perspectives they bring to our company. We built the Morningstar Development Program to prepare recent college graduates for successful, long-term careers here at Morningstar. Throughout this two-year program, you will be placed in a cohort where you’ll receive ongoing career development, networking, mentoring, training opportunities, apprenticeship program opportunities, and exposure to different areas of the business to help you succeed at Morningstar. We are accepting applicants with zero to two years of full-time work experience. While we look for individuals who have an interest in investing, we welcome all fields of study. All positions are based in our Chicago office. Within our traditional track, you will start within Customer Support, Operations, or Data.
Responsibilities for the Traditional Track:
  • Build deep expertise in Morningstar’s data, products, and research
  • Directly interact with Morningstar’s clients, including advisors, and individual and institutional investors
  • Contribute to ongoing training sessions and stretch projects while developing a strong foundation of knowledge to build on and use in your Morningstar career
  • Develop both analytical and communication skills by navigating Morningstar products and providing the best customer experience to our clients
  • Ability to adapt well to different situations and thrive in a challenging, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Creativity and good analytical ability
We are also recruiting for our specialized Sales, Customer Success and Credit Ratings tracks in the fall of 2022. Spots in these tracks are limited. Applicants who do not receive an offer for a track will still be considered for the Traditional Morningstar Development Program (listed above). Please indicate on your application if you are interested in applying to one of these tracks. Applications are now closed for the Equity Research track. If you are not interested in a track, you do NOT have to fill out that question relating to tracks on your application and you will be considered for the traditional track. Please only apply to one track at a time.
Sales/ Customer Success:
Morningstar`s Sales and Customer Success groups are responsible for helping our advisor, asset manager, and institutional clients build their businesses and provide better outcomes for investors. This track will help you build a career within our Sales or Customer Success client-facing groups. A successful candidate enjoys working directly with clients, embraces challenges and change, and has a natural curiosity to learn about others and their needs. This is a role that makes a direct and significant impact in our business. Successful team members combine a thorough understanding of Morningstar’s software, data, and research products with strong investment knowledge and business acumen to help clients make the most of our products. Candidates will start the Morningstar Development Program as a Sales Development Representative, a Customer Success Onboarding Specialist, or an Associate Customer Success Manager.
Credit Ratings:
The Credit Analyst’s primary responsibility is to support lead analysts in their responsibilities to assign and monitor credit ratings on securities collateralized by various loan and property types. In this position, the successful candidate will be expected to gradually develop a solid understanding of Fixed Income Markets. Key roles vary across asset classes but can include conducting loan and property analysis, creating and maintaining industry databases, writing Asset Summary Reports, running credit models, and producing press releases, rating reports, and commentaries.
