Performs patient specimen analysis for diagnostic purposes. Documents values in the electronic health record. Communicates panic values to healthcare staff per policy. Responsible for cleaning, disinfecting and sterilizing various equipment and work areas in the laboratory. Maintains laboratory inventory. Processes specimens in Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Serology and Blood Banking.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing
• Follows standard operating procedures for MLS/MLTs
• Ensures laboratory safety, quality and regulatory requirements are met
• Recognizes safety hazards and complies with all safety practices and protocols
• Performs clinical laboratory testing, including manual and automated methods
• Collects and manages all patient samples
• Cleans laboratory glassware, sinks and work benches using appropriate solvents and/or disinfectants.
• Responsible for inventory of reagents and supplies in the laboratory, reports needed supplies to the Laboratory Manager
• Initiates the meeting of responsibilities without prompting.
• Demonstrates the values of team concept on a consistent basis.
• Communicates in a clear and concise manner.
• Submits suggestions to improve the laboratory’s efficiency.
• Interacts with laboratory personnel in a professional manner.
• Performs clerical work; is able to input and retrieve lab results and communications in the computer system.
• Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
• Follows standard precautions at all times and follows OSHA requirements.
• Operates and maintains equipment correctly and safely, including calibration of instruments.
• Must possess North Dakota licensure in addition to certification
