Job Summary:

The Medical Billing Specialist will coordinate third-party billing and the application of payments to patient accounts.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

• Posting manual and EFT insurance payments to patient accounts.
• Following up on unpaid claims within standard billing cycle timeframe.
• Checking each insurance payment for accuracy and compliance with contract discount.
• Calling insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments if necessary.
• Researching and appealing denied claims.
• Answering all patient or insurance telephone inquiries pertaining to assigned accounts.
• Setting up patient payment plans and working collection accounts.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to research and analyze data, draw conclusions, and resolve issues; English grammar and usage.
• Ability to read and interpret medical procedures and terminology.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent, and
• One year of experience in a medical setting, or the
• Equivalent combination of experience, education, and training that would provide the required skills and abilities.
