Medical Billing Specialist
Job description
Job Summary:
The Medical Billing Specialist will coordinate third-party billing and the application of payments to patient accounts.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Posting manual and EFT insurance payments to patient accounts.
- Following up on unpaid claims within standard billing cycle timeframe.
- Checking each insurance payment for accuracy and compliance with contract discount.
- Calling insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments if necessary.
- Researching and appealing denied claims.
- Answering all patient or insurance telephone inquiries pertaining to assigned accounts.
- Setting up patient payment plans and working collection accounts.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to research and analyze data, draw conclusions, and resolve issues; English grammar and usage.
- Ability to read and interpret medical procedures and terminology.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent, and
- One year of experience in a medical setting, or the
- Equivalent combination of experience, education, and training that would provide the required skills and abilities.
