The Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Michigan (AAANM) is the place to turn for assistance with complex issues facing older adults, adults with disabilities and caregivers. AAANM links to, coordinates with, and provides a variety of programs, services, and resources within the 10-county service area of northwest Michigan. AAANM is a nonprofit corporation operating as a designated Area Agency on Aging by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and is a Medicaid MI Choice Waiver agent.

Job Summary: This position is responsible for completing Medicaid applications and Medicaid redeterminations for new and existing participants of the MI Choice Waiver program.

Pay: Based on experience

Schedule: Monday through Friday 8am-4:30pm with some flexibility in work schedule. Position is remote based, however it does require some travel throughout the northwest Michigan 10-county service area and may include occasional trips to other parts of the State; Ability to work outside scheduled hours when need arise.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Actively assists applicants of the MI Choice Waiver program in obtaining long-term care Medicaid.
  • Proactively supports successful redeterminations of long-term care Medicaid status for MI Choice Waiver participants.
  • Works with Michigan Department of Human Services Long Term Care Eligibility Specialists to report and resolve issues with Medicaid applications or redeterminations. Monitor status.
  • Works with stakeholders to resolve participant coding issues in Champs system.
  • Supports internal staff with Medicaid questions.
  • Maintains tracking records as well as documentation in Compass (electronic medical record) for those individuals’ seeking assistance with Medicaid application or Medicaid redetermination.

Education and/or Experience

  • Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior human services experience preferred.
  • Prior experience working with Medicaid preferred.
  • Prior experience working with older adults and caregivers preferred.
