About Frontline Wildfire Defense
Our mission is to protect homes, families and communities from wildfire disasters.
Frontline enables customers to track wildfires, receive important alerts, and safely navigate a wildfire, while protecting a customer’s home with the remotely operated Frontline Wildfire Defense System. With multiple levels of redundancy, our home defense system hydrates the materials of a home and its surrounding area to prevent ignition from flying embers - the #1 cause of structure loss during wildfire.
We are a small team in the early stages of growth, and yet we have already achieved significant milestones in protecting homes and earning revenue through successfully installing systems throughout Northern and Southern California. We have an experienced team of engineers, product designers, and investors and we are growing rapidly.
We are seeking a
Mechanical Engineer, who will help to ensure mechanical stability and reliability of existing products as well as explore and design new products and features to extend our product offering. This is a great opportunity to join us on the ground floor. You are organized, passionate about making a big impact in a company with a big mission, and work well in a flexible, dynamic environment. As part of the initial team, you will have real autonomy, ownership, and accountability as well as the opportunity for an equity stake in the company.
Responsibilities
- Own the mechanical reliability and performance quality for the entire Frontline Defense System and continually seek out ways to improve it.
- Develop the mechanical design for new products in our protection systems portfolio, including the hydraulic systems, electronic controller, and communications peripherals.
- Research, test, and validate improved components and design concepts.
- Review construction contract documents and coordinate with sub-contractors and General Contractor/owner to gather the required information to design the project’s sprinkler system
- Create assembly architectures to integrate mechanical, electrical, design, and manufacturing requirements
- Create detailed drawings through extensive use of AutoCAD, AutoSprink, or HydraCAD type programs.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, SolidWorks preferred.
- Perform hydraulic calculations
- Develop and validate hydraulics calculator and design tools to facilitate preliminary designs by sales team
- Optimize mechanical designs for quality and manufacturability.
- Clearly communicate ideas and design specifications through sketches, slides, 2D drawings, and written documentation
- Work closely with external resources and suppliers to drive on-time delivery of quality parts/components
Experience / Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or equivalent
- 5+ years in a mechanical design/engineering role and hydraulic design (preferably in fire protection systems)
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with great attention to detail.
- Strong 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks preferred)
- Experience with taking a product design through validation testing and through manufacturing set up to full production
- Hands-on experience with shop tools and prototyping.
- Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
- Experience with plumbing and/or irrigation systems a plus
- Willingness to roll up sleeves to take on a variety of other tasks needed in a startup environment.
Compensation:
- Salary $80K - $120K (based on experience)
Life At Frontline

- Remote work environment
- Competitive salary & equity package
- Medical, Dental, Vision insurance
