Job description

The mission of NorthBridge College Success Program is to provide support, resources, and guidance to students with learning differences as they transition to, persist and succeed in higher educational and vocational opportunities. Students are taught skills, tools and processes needed to maximize success and overcome learning challenges which assures the completion of their academic programs. NorthBridge serves students enrolled in community colleges, four-year colleges, technical schools and vocational programs.

Academic Coaches

The Academic Coach works directly with students. Coaches support the development of academic and personal skills by providing direct academic support.

Reports to: Program Director

Characteristics and Minimum Qualifications:

• An understanding of NorthBridge’s mission and unwavering commitment to the success of our students
• A high level of personal integrity and reliability
• Excellent organizational and planning skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience tutoring college students in math and science-related subjects such as algebra and biology.
• Knowledge of university and college curriculum requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree

• Experience tutoring students with learning disabilities, preferably in the post-secondary setting
• Experience coaching and managing adults

Responsibilities of an Academic Coach are:

• Meet with students on a regular schedule in-person.
• Provide direct coursework support when needed.
• Guide student on how to best implement college success behaviors (time management, goal setting, decision making, utilizing available resources, etc.)
• Support students in navigating issues/concerns related to their transition to postsecondary education and postsecondary success.
• Utilize TutorBird to record student progress.
• Send weekly grade updates and hold students accountable.

Position Basics:

• Schedule: Will vary, but support is provided Monday through Friday 9-5
• Rate of $16/hour
