Position: Material Handler

Reports to:

Summary: The materials handler moves materials and products through the receiving, warehouse, manufacturing, inspection and shipping processes using various material handling equipment chosen to prevent damage, promote employee safety as well as handling efficiency.

Essential Job Functions:

  • All incoming material is inspected for damage as it is removed from the carrier as outlined in the work instructions.
  • If the material is damaged, a freight claim will be processed and the material held for disposition. If the damage is extensive, the load will be refused.
  • MRO Direct and indirect materials, WIP, finished goods will be moved in such a way as to lift the material from the floor or in process work surface to prevent handling damage. The methods can include the use of forklifts, pallet jacks, electric lift jacks, carts, dollies, conveyors, etc. as applicable for the materials being moved.
  • All direct and indirect material shall be received, stored and issued in packaging as specified in the work instructions.
  • Finished goods shall be packaged and labeled by production before transfer to designated storage location.
  • Packaging and labeling of finished goods for shipment and delivery to the customer shall conform to SRG packaging specifications unless otherwise required by documented customer specifications. In the event a shipment is to be weighed, a certified scale is to be used.
  • Regardless of FOB point, all outgoing shipments shall be properly loaded and secured on the carrier’s equipment so as to prevent damage and /or in accordance with applicable customer specifications.
  • Finished goods shall be delivered by forwarders as listed in the Approved Supplier List or any other forwarder specifically designated by the customer.
  • Works under direct supervision and in accordance with instructions and techniques.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.

Physical Demands:

    • Constantly stand or walk on concrete floor for 8+ hours
    • Frequently walk, bend, squat and stoop.
    • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50lbs.
    • Requires hand, arm, back and leg strength
    • Must have eye, foot, and hand coordination, and be able to do repetitive grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine motor manipulation
    • Ability to work in fluctuating temperatures & perform work indoors / outdoors as needed.

    Required education and experience:

    • High school diploma or GED

    Preferred experience:

    • Demonstrated ability to operate and keep up with various material handling equipment.
