Basic Function

The basic function of the Manufacturing Technician is to build and test complex ultra-high vacuum (UHV) assemblies and precision mechanical components for use in the operation of Lyncean’s Compact Light Source (CLS). Expertise in reading assembly drawings and schematics in order to assemble vacuum components and related hardware is required. A good candidate for this position will be able to improve assembly procedures based on experience and redline documentation and drawings as needed. Clear communication, punctuality, experience with UHV hardware, precision assembly and a willingness to learn on the job are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and test prototype vacuum components and associated hardware
  • Write assembly procedures and improve existing work instructions
  • Document redlines and changes as needed
  • Support the engineering staff and all related tasks
  • Organize and manage the work bench, flow hood and assembly tooling
  • Ensure the work areas are clean and safe for day to day work
  • Manage inventory of spare parts and excess components
Skills
  • Ability to work independently from mechanical assembly drawings and Bill of Materials
  • Ability to assemble complex mechanical and vacuum related assemblies
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and follow cleanroom practices and protocols
  • Demonstrated ability in precision assembly and understanding UHV handling techniques
  • Skilled in precision measurements and alignment
  • Experience with standard manufacturing and assembly tools: leak detectors, pumps, valves, gauges, torque wrenches, drill press, calipers, micrometers, test indicators, surface plates, machinist levels, etc.
  • Clear communication between engineering groups to clarify tasks and utilize teamwork

Education/Training

UHV Training and/or Associates Degree from accredited institution or equivalent training and experience

Experience

5 years minimum in precision assembly or UHV assembly, integration and testing within R&D or semiconductor capital equipment environment

Travel Requirements

Up to 25% international and domestic travel to support existing clients

Ability to obtain VISAs for Lyncean target market countries
