Pay range: $47.18 per hour per IBEW CBA ($49.07 effective May 1, 2023)

About this position:

The maintenance mechanic will be responsible for having general knowledge and familiarity with mechanic's tools, machine tools, fabricating, rotating equipment alignment techniques, safe crane and rigging practices, welding techniques, and troubleshooting mechanical problems as required. Compliance with safety standards and knowledge and experience of safe work practices is required.

About this job:

  • Perform preventative maintenance or direct repair on a variety of industrial equipment
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of drills, grinders, hand tools, indicators, gauges, sanders, MIG welding techniques, torches, jacks, hoists, fans, and all other tools and safety equipment needed to perform the job
  • Fabricate tools and parts as needed
  • Perform all work as requested by supervisor
  • Interpret blueprints or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances
  • Fabricate obsolete parts from existing parts or sketches
  • Design, develop and construct intricate jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies from general instructions
  • Recognize design errors and make necessary changes to improve functionality
  • Cut and weld components in flat, vertical or overhead positions
  • Read one-line diagrams, hydraulic schematics, and mechanical drawings
  • Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, and work orders
  • Lay out, position, align, and secure raw materials to be cut, beveled, shaped, or ground
  • Prepare all material surfaces to be welded
  • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, or bolt component parts
  • Demonstrate safe crane and rigging practices
  • Perform turbine/generator overhauls, equipment installation, and troubleshoot problems
  • Lift up to 35 pounds frequently and a maximum of 70 pounds occasionally

  • Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certificate of training as a millwright or completion of a millwright's apprenticeship preferred
  • Certificates of training in welding and/or metals fabrication preferred
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record; commercial driver's license preferred
  • Must pass physical test to access all areas of the hydro plants, including climbing ladders, confined and cramped wet slippery quarters and traveling rough terrain
  • Knowledge of hydro plant systems is desirable
