Applied Composites (AC) is seeking a Machinist Tool Maker (1st Shift) who supports company-wide development and production programs. The Mold Maker develops and executes a variety of work procedures with moderate instruction and supervision. This Toolmaker I performs manual machining, disassembly/assembly, and fitting of matched metal tooling.

Job Accountabilities:

  • Read and interpret engineering specifications from text and drawings.
  • Use a variety of tools and precision measuring instruments. E.g. electric drill, drill bed, band saw, table saw, lathe, mill, a variety of air tools (grinder, router and drill), micrometer, measuring tape, scales, measuring ruler, able to operate overhead crane
  • Able to develop the process to fit, align, calibrate and adjust parts and mechanical units to meet specifications and requirements using the variety of tools mentioned above.
  • Able to fabricate a variety of tooling as needed which includes machining fixtures, assembly fixtures, layup tools and test fixtures
  • Capable of handling heavy assembly (800 lbs. to 10,000 lbs.) with suitable support equipment
  • Able to repair or rework assemblies by taking apart mechanical fastened assembly, replace damaged part and reassemble them back together
  • Able to self-check and inspect work in process
  • Responsible for the Repair and maintenance of Steel and Invar tools used in the manufacture of goods
  • Work with a variety of materials including metals, alloys, plastics and Composites
  • Ability of following engineering drawings to measure and mark out the design for the tool
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Job Specifications:

Education: A Secondary Certificate/High School Diploma or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations

Years’ Experience: 2-3+ years of relevant experience at minimum
Skills:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use a variety of manual and power tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to do accurate work at a rapid pace.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Shop level math skills
  • Familiar with standard shop practices used in the aerospace industry
