Under supervision, performs para-professional library work developing and delivering mobile outreach services in the County. Performs circulation duties, readers’ advisory and reference and conducts programs for all ages; drives the outreach vehicle and ensures timely vehicle maintenance.
Employee must exercise tact and courtesy in all contacts with library patrons and the public.
Reports to Library Director.
Hiring salary for the Library Specialist-Mobile Outreach Services $34,634 Depending on Qualifications
- Develops routes and schedules mobile outreach visits in the County.
- Makes stops at selected sites. Checks materials in and out; registers patrons for library cards; maintains records and tabulations.
- Assists patrons with reader services and inquiries regarding various topics, including recommendations for books; help patrons find books and other materials.
- Coordinates and develops special programs/classes/events/activities for community locations including, but not limited to, assisted living facilities, schools, neighborhoods, community centers, and community events.
- Performs tasks at in-house circulation desks as needed.
- Assists patrons with the use of computers and other equipment including copiers and printers.
- Assists patrons with the use of library databases, online search engines, printing of documents, setting up new email accounts and the use of basic Microsoft systems.
- Answers phone, opens/closes library locations on rotating shifts, and provides technical assistance to patrons using library computers, printers, copiers, and other public equipment. Provides light genealogical research assistance.
- Registers patrons for library programs and based on assignment, may assist with implementing and promoting special events and activities.
- Attends seminars and workshops relevant to library services.
- May operate County vehicle to retrieve and distribute inter-office mail, deposit monies, and transport library materials and supplies between County libraries.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Possession of a high school diploma/GED supplemented by secondary coursework in child development, children/adult literature. Associate’s Degree preferred.
Two (2) years of progressive experience in public library work.
Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
Possession of a valid driver’s license; possess and maintain a driving record that meets established Gloucester County Driving Standards.
