Role
The role of the Legal Coordinator will be to protect the credit union from risk or loss due to timely management and processing of bankruptcies, garnishments, levies. The Legal Coordinator will also include tracking, recording and maintenance of accounts, loans, spreadsheets and all areas required. The role will also include other duties that may come up from time to time.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The Legal Coordinator will be responsible for the duties pertaining to Bankruptcy and Legal Matters including new bankruptcy notification received via electronic or US mail. Document and follow up with attorneys and courts as required to ensure payments are being received and posted on all bk13 accounts. Queuing all BK queues to ensure timely follow up; queues must be reviewed daily to ensure that a follow up is not missed. Complete Proof of Claims electronically, as well as reaffirmation agreements and review all BK plans. Review and Submit Cram down requests for BK13 plans. Notify Management bankruptcy trends increases in filings, types of chapters being filed. To also inform Management of bankruptcy issues where a possibility of loss via legal action against credit union or cram down exists or are possible.
Working specialty accounts (Deceased, Credit disputes, Credit Life & Disability) ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
The Legal Coordinator shall process levy, garnishment and child support warrants upon receipt as well as maintaining all filing of incoming documentation to insure records are kept up to date and file maintenance of all charge off loan that queues are maintained. Correspond with members to inform them of the freeze on funds due to the above action. Due to the timeliness of these items, they must be acted upon the date of receipt; failure to do so may put the credit union at risk. Monitor queues daily to ensure accurate follow up.
Month end charge off work, assigning charge off accounts to third parties.
Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
Knowledge and Skills
ExperienceThree years to five years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience.
Education/Certifications/LicensesA high school degree or equivalent
Interpersonal SkillsCourtesy and tact are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with customers and others inside and outside the organization, generally regarding fairly routine matters for the purposes of giving and obtaining information or instructions, updating or referring. Communications require shorter and not in-depth discussions most of the time.
ADA Requirements
Physical RequirementsPerform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
Working ConditionsMust be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.
Mental and/or Emotional RequirementsMust be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
