Job Description for Secretary/Legal Assistant
Summary/Objective:
This individual performs complete secretarial duties for a lawyer or supervisor. Requires knowledge of policies, procedures, formats and specialized terminology. Maintains a working knowledge of the lawyers’ areas of practice. Requires a good, working knowledge of all Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point and Access. Written and oral communication skills are required.
Essential Functions:
1. Handle all dictation :
Prepare correspondence
Pleadings
Discovery and responses
Deposition summaries
Other legal documents as necessary
2. Schedule depositions, mediations, and court reporting
3. File maintenance
4. Coordinate Attorney calendars and schedules
5. Answer calls for Attorneys
6. Knowledge of Case Management/Electronic Case Filing (CM/ECF)
7. Ability to multitask and work with ever changing deadlines
8. Work well within a team
Computer Programs/Skills:
Type a minimum of 60 words per minute
Microsoft Office, especially Word
Billing System
Ability to learn other specialized applications
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and the employee must work at least 40.0 hours each week and may have occasional overtime. This position reports directly to the supervising attorneys and the Executive Director.
Minimum Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. 2-5 years legal experience .
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
