The Department of Urban Studies and Planning (DUSP) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) invites applications from individuals who would like to join our community for a three-year lecturer appointment in the areas of urban design and planning. The Department seeks a dynamic and creative teacher with a record as a practicing professional in urban design, policy, land use planning, architecture or landscape architecture and some previous experience in teaching. The position requires teaching two to three classes per year, participating in department committees, and serving as an academic and thesis advisor to students enrolled in the Master of City Planning (MCP) program. The entire service load is negotiable, depending upon the appointment level (a minimum of 50% time during the academic year is expected). The person hired will be expected to teach urban design in studio and workshop settings, and urban design theory and reflection on practice through seminars and lectures.

Qualifications

A graduate (master) professional degree in planning, architecture, landscape architecture, urban design or related field is required, together with: a minimum of 3 years of professional experience in urban planning or design; prior teaching experience in professional development or at a graduate level; ability to teach in a cross-disciplinary and dynamic setting that caters to both designers and planners. A PhD is encouraged but not required.
