Basic Functions:

Accurately, in a timely manner, and according to current standards, perform all laboratory activities as requested by physicians. Assist with the maintenance and performance quality of all instruments and equipment. Generate technical or general information to medical and non-medical personnel. Promote cooperation and teamwork among department personnel, extending into all departments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, test reporting and maintaining records of patient results
  • Understand the technical aspects of tests and their underlying scientific principles. Initiate independent judgement of technical and procedural problems
  • Maintain records that demonstrate that PT samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot interfaces between EMR, Scheduling, Middleware, and reference labs with LIS (LabDaq).
  • Implement and monitor quality control procedures, according to current standards, on a regular basis on all required instruments, methods and reagents. Review patient testing, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting records monthly or on an as needed basis.
  • Follow the laboratory’s policies whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications
  • Perform preventative and routine maintenance on all instruments, as needed.
  • Replenish and control inventory of necessary supplies as may be required.
  • Participate in decision-making, regarding quality control, instrument selection, preventative maintenance, safety, and reagent purchases.
  • Maintain Quality Improvement programs (IQCP) for the lab.
  • Interactions with reference labs on workflow or interface issues.
  • Manage accounts payable/receivable for invoices/payments. Collaborate with accountant regarding financial reports (monthly, yearly, as needed for the business).
  • Facilitate quarterly, or as needed, FPL shareholder meetings.
  • Marketing and Public relations for FPL
  • Maintain professional/casualty insurance agreements with insurers.
  • Communicate with other supervisors or community healthcare clinics to support positive working relationships and understanding of department policies and procedures.
  • Resolve employee disputes and problems within the department.
  • Responsible for preparing lab schedule, monitoring and approving time off requests and lab employee timecards
  • Responsible for completing employee performance evaluations and competency evaluations.
  • Responsible for teaching and training of new employees and knowledge of organization. Teach and evaluate basic theory, technical skills, and application of tests
  • Perform other relevant duties as requested by Lab Director, physicians, or Shareholders.

Qualifications:

  • ASCP or AMT certified Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Science with a Bachelor of Science Degree
  • Knowledge of healthcare business operations, preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to get along well with others.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Laboratory skills and operations.
  • Must possess good communication skills and knowledge of CLIA/CAP regulations
  • Previous supervisory or management experience preferred

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:

  • Work in varying degrees of temperature (heated or air conditioned)
  • This position operates in a professional laboratory environment. Daily and regular exposure to infectious blood and bodily fluids is expected
  • Position operates in a professional laboratory setting. Ability to operate laboratory equipment and some filing is required. Ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary is required. The employee must occasionally lift office products and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

  • This is a full-time position. Work is performed during regular work hours but may require overtime and/or weekend hours due to Laboratory operating hours.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
