Charlotte Latin is seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our cohort of Latin Fellows as a Lower School Music Specialist for the 2023-2024 school year. Latin Fellows is designed to give one year of guidance, training and experience to recent college graduates considering teaching as a career. Latin Fellows are not considered interns or student teachers; rather, they are full-time employees treated as colleagues within their departments.

Fellows have many opportunities to contribute to the school community and for personal and professional development. Examples may include sponsoring a club, coaching, attending conferences and international travel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities*

Participate in ongoing Fellows Program training and mentorship both within the Lower School Music Department and across the broader life of the School

*
Design and implement age-appropriate music lessons for TK-Grade 4 classes, with the option of additional classes in the early music education program (Birth-age 4)

*
Prepare each grade for public performances

*
Cultivate a lifelong love of music with an understanding of the developmental needs of elementary level learners

*
Collaborate with Cultural Enrichment Coordinator in the selection and management of Lower School assemblies

*
Assist with ongoing organization and cataloging of costumes, props and instruments

*
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Performing Arts

Minimum Qualifications*

*
Bachelor’s Degree in Music, with a strong preference for Music Education and/or Elementary Music Education to be completed on or before June 30, 2023.

Preferred Qualifications*

• Awareness of current pedagogies (Orff, Kodaly, Dalcroze, Musikgarten) is desired.

• Proficient with using technology as an instructional complement.

Working Conditions and Environment

• Intermittently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds
• Continuously see, sit, balance, grasp, and have repetitive use of arms, wrists, hands, and fingers; and some fine finger dexterity
• Frequently talk and hear
• Intermittently stand, stoop, bend, twist, crouch, kneel, crawl, walk, climb stairs and ladders, operate foot and hand controls, squeeze, and reach above shoulders
• Exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, flammables, grease, dirt, stacked materials, electrical equipment, machinery, low to medium noise levels, and moderate indoor temperatures of heat and cold
• Long or odd hours, as needed
