The Springfield Water and Sewer Commission seeks qualified applicants for entry level labor

positions at its facility on Provin Mountain in Feeding Hills, MA, and also at its West Parish Filters

water treatment plant in Blandford, MA.

Staff stationed at Provin Mountain oversee maintenance of three underground water storage tanks,

the transmission lines that carry the water, and the extensive grounds that house the tanks and the

lines. Duties may include heavy equipment operation, CDL vehicle operation, landscaping, tree

removal, carpentry, mowing, weed whacking, digging ditches, road work, pipe repair, snow plowing,

and minor building maintenance.

Staff stationed at West Parish Filters support the work of the water treatment plant and maintain

the grounds of the facility. Duties may include heavy equipment operation, CDL vehicle operation,

landscaping, tree removal, carpentry, mowing, weed whacking, digging ditches, road work, pipe

repair, snow plowing, and minor building maintenance.

Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license.

Candidates who are offered positions will be required to complete pre-employment criminal

background check, pre-employment physical, and pre-employment drug test. Employment offers

are conditioned on the applicant’s ability to satisfy the Commission’s requirements with regard to

pre-employment screening.

Applicants must be able to:

• lift up to 90# as needed

• work in all weather conditions as well as inside buildings and private residences

• interact in an effective, respectful, and professional manner with the public

• use computers as part of their regular work duties

• operate hand tools and construction related equipment safely and effectively

Preferred skills:

• CDL A/B license with tanker endorsement preferred

• Hoisting license preferred

This is a non-exempt position with some overtime. Candidates must be available for on-call rotation

as needed including nights and weekends. Starting hourly rate is in accordance with the union

contract and is $18.85 to $22.11 depending on experience. Hourly rate will increase to $19.23 to

$22.56 on July 1, 2023. Promotional opportunities are regularly available. This is a full-time 40

hour/week position with paid sick and vacation time.
