The Pet Emergency and Specialty Center of Marin (www.pescm.com) is looking for a candidate to join our busy hospital’s laboratory. This position is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 12PM-1030PM. While no veterinary or laboratory experience is required, this position requires you to be both a team player and adept at working independently with a strong ability for self-management and precision attention to detail. We will train the right candidate!

PESCM, located in San Rafael, is the only24/7 veterinary hospital in Marin with specialties in Internal Medicine, Oncology, Surgery, Neurology, Cardiology, Urgent Care, Emergency, Radiology, and Critical Care. As our Laboratory Assistant, you will be responsible for the following:

• Perform CBC’s
• Load specimens on the chemistry analyzer, perform dilutions as needed
• Perform coagulation tests, PT & PTT
• Perform blood gasses
• Perform COP
• Perform urinalysis including microscopic analysis
• Blood bank testing including crossmatches and blood typing
• Performs various serology ELISA and latex agglutination testing
• Performs microscopic fecal analysis
• Troubleshoots analyzer issues and LIS issues
• Prepare plasma samples for administration
• Package samples up for outside lab testing
• Keeping laboratory stocked
• Updating doctors in real time when results come in

About You:

• Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, time management skills, excellent follow through and attention to detail.
• Must be comfortable working on computers and learning our software systems
• Ability to take direction from a variety of staff members, including technicians and doctors
• Must be a team player, motivated to learn new things and able to work in a fast paced environment.
• Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment and commitment to develop long-term relationships with colleagues, clients, and community
• Positive outlook and ability to work well in a collaborative environment.
• Honesty, integrity, and a desire to learn and have fun!
