Summary Job Description:
The Kitchen worker supports the Agency’s food service program by distributing food to the cottages and for maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supply and transport food items to the cottages according to the HACCP standards
- Clean and maintain a safe and sanitary kitchen, including the refrigerators, freezers and storerooms.
- Label and store foods according to the HACCP standards.
- Receive orders, check for accuracy and quality, and place in proper storage areas.
- Maintain and care for kitchen equipment.
- Coordinate the distribution of household and hygiene supplies to the RTC and other Agency departments as needed.
- Establish and maintain a system for rotating stock according to HACCP standards.
- Assure presentation of all food items adhere to established standards.
- Communicate and interact positively with residents, staff and community.
- Completes daily records, forms and temperature logs.
- Inventories food and supplies as needed.
- Maintain proper dietary restrictions to meet required nutrition standards and special diet needs.
- Attend in-service training, workshops or online training as required.
- Foster a team environment by assisting coworkers with scheduled work demands.
- Assist with the School Breakfast and Lunch program as needed such as preparing and serving food according to planned menus, portion size, using approved school recipes and safe food handling procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Have the willingness and ability to mentor and guide residents who are participating in vocational internship roles within the departments.
Job requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Driver’s license in good standing required.
- Current Suffolk County Food Manager Certificate (or equivalent certification) or must be able to obtain certification within first 60 days of hire.
- Ability to perform the following physical demands: lifting (up to 50 pounds), carrying, pushing, pulling, kneeling, crouching, and standing for extended periods of time.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Specifics skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; quality cooking, operating a computer and commercial kitchen equipment.
- Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: oral and written communication (English Language), basic math, read/follow instructions, critical thinking and problem solving, safety and sanitation practices, and food preparation and handling.
- Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: customer service and public relation skills, work with students and staff with diverse backgrounds and abilities, work as part of a team, and promote and follow Agency and District policies and procedures.
- This is an hourly position , pay will commensurate with experience.
