IT Help Desk Specialist:

Provide technical assistance to computer users. Answer questions or resolve computer problems for clients in person, or via telephone or electronically. Also provides assistance concerning the use of computer hardware and software, including printing, installation, word processing, electronic mail, and operating systems.

Work Performed

  • Triage and prioritize user issues and technology problems
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues where possible, escalate issues when appropriate
  • Assist in tracking and management of IT assets in local and remote offices
  • Assist in purchasing, shipping, and receiving assets
  • Assist in installation, support, and maintenance of technology
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education/Training

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or related discipline is preferred. High school diploma is required.

Experience

At least 1-2 years of experience as a Help Desk Specialist is required. Demonstrated proficiency with troubleshooting hardware and software issues.

  • Demonstrated understanding of basic computer operations and functions (e.g., basic hardware knowledge, application installation and configuration, troubleshooting, Tier 1 support)
  • Basic understanding of IT Security and operations
  • Working proficiency of Microsoft Office 365 products

  • Knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunications systems

  • Knowledge in determining how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes.

Computer, printer, copier, scanner, fax, telephone, web conferencing, Internet, servers, system manuals, small hand tools.

Working Conditions

Work is sedentary in nature and performed in an office environment. Involves frequent contact with staff and clients. Work may be stressful at times. May require travel at times (~10%).

Physical/Mental Demands

Work requires hand dexterity for office machine operation; stooping, climbing, and bending to files and supplies; mobility to complete errands; stand/sit for up to eight hours each day; ability to communicate clearly when using the telephone; requires sitting; standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting, and twisting at times; moderate levels of stress. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times. Shared on-call schedule for customer needs outside of normal working hours.
